In his Falls Church office, Dr. Christopher Ogilvie has developed a Natural Weight Loss Program that offers increased energy, mental clarity, hormone balancing, and healthy weight loss without any gimmicks.

The CDC reports that in the last 30 years the percentage of childhood obesity has tripled in the United States. Over the same time period, adult obesity has also increased dramatically. As a nation we are getting larger and the simple reason is because of the type of foods we are choosing to eat and our lifestyles. Most food falls into 2 categories.

1. Quick, cheap and processed

2. The well-intentioned but grain heavy pyramid.

The detriments of the former are obvious; high fat and low nutritional value. In choosing the latter, we end up eating crackers, breads, pastas, and rice and rarely eat sufficient protein to balance out our meals. The result of either choice is that we gain weight. Then, we try to lose the weight the same way we gained it: quick, cheap, and requiring little effort. Therefore, if you are looking for a magic pill, or even a weight loss drug, you will not find it here. For this reason I have developed:

The Keys to Comprehensive Weight Loss

1 Eat Real Food

Over millions of years of trial and error, nature has created a wonderful variety of nutrient-packed foods that supply us with everything we need for our bodies to function optimally. Yet most Americans insist on buying food that comes out of a factory. Processed foods are one of the main perpetrators in the current obesity epidemic. If you are on a weight loss program and are not eating real, whole food, it will be difficult to maintain your weight once the "diet" is over. The best way to reduce your weight and maintain ideal weight is to start eating real food. Real food consists of organic vegetables, fruits, raw nuts and seeds, natural meats, and whole, minimally processed, grains.

2. Prepare Your Own Food

On my program, I encourage all clients to buy and prepare their own food. In doing this, they are laying the groundwork they will need to be healthy for the rest of their lives. If someone else is producing your food, it will be a lower quality and any benefits will be lost when they are no longer producing your food.

3. Control Blood Sugar

Insulin is a hormone in the body secreted by the pancreas. Insulin has protected our species from extinction by storing fat from times of feat for times of famine. Those of us who stored fat the best, survived. Now, insulin is killing us with belly fat. Belly fat increases inflammation and is an indicator of future cardiovascular disease as well as diabetes. The best way to control insulin is by eating a BALANCED MEAL of protein, carbohydrates, and fiber. Also, it is very important that you have a healthy snack before you become too hungry. A healthy snack consists of raw nuts and seeds or vegetables.

4 Knowing What You Are Losing

Many dieters end up losing muscle along with fat and water. Eventually, the muscle will come back and you will be back where you started. Preserving muscle through nutrition and quality resistance training ensures the preservation of your fat-burning muscles.

5. Education

A diet without nutritional education is a recipe for failure. My program is like a nutritional boot camp. Each week I review meal plans and exercise programs, successes and failures. By the end of the first 3 months, clients are experts in how their body uses food and exercise to lose weight.

6. Exercise

While having a balanced diet is up to 80% of weight loss, exercise is very important for a couple of reasons. 1. Cardiovascular exercises strengthen the heart and the body's vessels. Cardio also lowers bad cholesterol (LDL) and raises good cholesterol (HDL). 2 Resistance training builds muscle which increases metabolism.

7. Support

Don't do it alone. Get a professional to help you. Ideally, the support should continue through the maintenance phase. Research shows that people are more successful when they have professionals to coach them through the process.
